Hanna Nordholt & Fritz Steingrobe – Sound of the Pictures
From Knopfs Lichtspielhaus, opened in 1906, possibly the first German cinema installed in a permanent building up to the psychedelic lightshows of the 60s at Gruenspan the Reeperbahn has always been a place where moving pictures met sound, merging to dreams of all kinds. Nowadays music and film are close partners. The world of visual music is growing constantly, driven by ever new technical innovations and the opportunities of digital technology. The idea behind it is to make musical structures visible, turning them into a sensual experience.
If you want to know what a C sharp looks like or what colours an A major chord can have, you will find numerous answers in the history of experimental films. On two evenings short films will feature the history of visual music, linguistic DADA experiments, psychedelic fringes of perception, a number of other special phenomena of synaesthesia and the wonders of digital image and sound worlds.
