Alex Cuba is a real heavyweight and not because of his impressive retro Afro-hairdo. The Cuba-born musician is one of the most innovative Latin-Soul stars around. Alex Cuba is based in Canada, where a large community of exiled Cubans surrounds him. He has been fascinated with music since his early childhood days: he practiced guitar, percussion and bass for hours and hours. His versatile skills help him to create a sound that is new and fresh. A duet with Ron Sexsmith became a small hit, he won two Juno awards (Canadian music prize) and one Latin Grammy. Cuba also co-wrote the Spanish album of Nelly Furtado "Mi Plan", you can even hear him on several songs. His soft but powerful sound is especially great live, maybe because he is a passionate bass player and his old Gibson has extra thick strings.
