The vocals sound close, and then sometimes far away. An atmospheric noise flares up in the songs. It is a huge wall of sound but it's the little details that keep it incredibly interesting. This is Urban-Folk for people who think bands like Mumford & Sons sound too perfect and hold on to the concept of Folk too precisely. If you agree, you definitely need to see J.Allen. Based in New York, the musician used to play in the Space Folk band Meanwhiles. He is a source of confusing joy: he plays every instrument himself. His bedroom recordings summon a cranky, partly inaccessible, psychedelic essence. It is not an easy listening snack but that's why it is so good. His solo debut is called "Wonder City" and will be released by himself in the beginning of September. And because Hamburg is a big city, J.Allen and his City-Folk are more than welcome.
