Velvet Two Stripes
They sound as if their
music has been produced in some garage in Brooklyn or Detroit.
Raw and unpolished guitar
sounds and a straight drum beat combined with lasciviously, erotic female
vocals that go straight into your legs and cause your whole body to get shaken
up. It’s similar to what Jon Spencer’s first band Boss Hog sounded like. But
The Velvet Two Stripes are from Switzerland, more precisely the city St.
Gallen, which is anything but a megacity. This female trio is the best example
for what seems to rumble underneath the city of 70 000 souls. “The Ramones and
Jimi Hendrix showed us how it works”, says the 18-year-old singer Sophia.
She formed the band together with her sister Sara and friend Franca.
They’ve only just played a couple of shows so far and haven’t even released an
album yet. Nevertheless, these newcomers are said to be the hippest band in
Switzerland.
