2:54
Naming your band after the exact track time of your favourite drum solo is cooler than cool! That’s what 2:54 did. If you listen closely to the Melvins Song “A History Of Bad Men” and turn the volume up at 2 minutes and 54 seconds, then you know what we’re talking about. The band consists of the sisters Collette and Hannah Thurlow, both are music nerds with Riot Grrrl attitude. Together they create a jaw-dropping Shoegaze-sound, especially overwhelming on their debut record “2:54”. Their songs often appear claustrophobic thanks to Collette’s voice getting drowned in the roaring guitar sound.
Her voice doesn’t even try to compete with this beautifully created noise - and she doesn’t need to. 2:54 can easily compete with recent Indie hypes like The XX and Warpaint. A song like “Scarlet” kicks every competition away. 2:54 are one of the most interesting acts in 2012!
