Big Harp
Forming a band when you're married can be risky: First, if all it's important for a healthy relationship, to do things on your own. Secondly, being on tour is a constant threat of jealousy when the guitarist husband has lots of female Indie fans and the drummer wife has to turn down countless invitations by young guys wanting to drink beer and talk about music all night. But Stefanie Drootin-Senseney and her husband Chris Senseney are professionals. They are an integral part of the American Indie scene. Stefanie is part of the vibrant Saddle Creek family from Omaha. She was a member of The Good Life, played for Bright Eyes, Azure Ray and other bands on tour and in the studio. Mr. Senseney, too, can look back on years and years of experience, for example with Art Manila. But it would be unfair to judge Big Harp on their professional past. We should listen to their music, because it is fantastic! The sound is laid back with a classic Country vibe at the same time reduced and very American. Songs like "Everybody Pays" also lyrically deal with the rough gunslingers wisdom of the Country genre. Combined with Chris Senseney's deep voice the music is like hot, yet nice American desert wind. Big Harp's debut "White Hat" was released only last year but the wedded musicians are already in the studio producing their next album. However, this time it isn't Rilo Kiley bass player Pierre de Reeder producing the songs, but (if you believe their Facebook page) their children. What can we expect? Looking at their parents, only good things!
