Arkells
Arkells are from Hamilton/Ontario and recently received the Juno Award as the best band in Canada. Juno is the Canadian pendant to The Grammy, but of course it is not as important as the US price. Nevertheless, Canada has a blossoming music scene and some pretty famous outcomes like Arcade Fire or Broken Social Scene. Quite a competition. The Band was formed six years ago; two years ago they won the award for “Best New Band”, and moving forward quickly they received the title “Group of the Year” in 2012. Their album “Jackson Square”, named after the shopping mall in their home Hamilton, was released just recently in Germany. Arkells’ music is energetic and almost classical Rock. Compared to bands such as Gaslight Anthem and The Hold Steady, singer Max Kerman is often mentioned in one sentence with Boss Springsteen. Although “Jackson Square” is their debut, a follow-up LP titled “Michigan Left” is already available in Canada. Akells live debut in Germany will take place at this year’s Reeperbahn Festival and they could be one of the most interesting discoveries.
