What is the secret of Shields? Well, for one there are the fantastic arrangements: the band doesn’t believe in verse, chorus, verse. So, they put a little break here, a small bridge there and add lots of wonderful sounds everywhere. And then there are the melodies – amazing! Of course, having three guitars and three singers helps. Oh, and the bassline – one moment it’s rope skipping, the next it’s cool and smooth. And, not to forget, Luke Elgies’ warm voice. And, well, and… Everything else!! This quintet from Newcastle is very unique in the current UK music scene. They were on a European tour with Dispatch, recently. An EP has already been released – produced by the great Adrian Bushby. So, what is the secret of Shields? We don’t know. The only real secret is why so many people still haven’t heard of them…
