The first associations that come to mind are definitely Joy Division, Siouxsie & the Banshees and Bauhaus: think strange late 70’s psychedelic indie sound, driving guitars and a slightly more positive attitude than those bands given above. TOY have been touring with The Horrors and there are some distinct parallels as well as an ongoing friendship between the two bands. Three of the band members have previously played in Joe Lean & the Jing Jang Jongs so you can definitely expect musical expertise. Another fun fact: Tom Dougall is Rose’s Elinor Dougall’s brother. Rose is lead singer of fabulous girl band The Pipettes. It’s a small world! Their debut album – which is due in September 2012 – will manifest TOY as an essential must-know.
